VALLEY CLASSIC BOER GOAT SHOW - April 30th & May 1st 2005

THANK YOU to all of the Exhibitors, Sponsors, and those who just came to watch the Valley Classic Boer Goat Show, Jr. Show and Market Goat Show. It was a wonderful weekend, and believe it or not, it wasn't very stressful this year, thanks to all of you who helped to make it run so smooth!! Exhibitors by being at the gate on time, and with the right animals!! It was a lot of fun, and thanks for all of the positive comments! That makes it easier on me too!!

Thanks to my mom, MaryLou, for all of her work during the show..the show reports are all completed by the end of each show. We ended up with 222 animals being shown in the Open Show, 78 in the Jr. Show and 85 Market Goats. That is 385 animals for the weekend, with 29 Open Show exhbitors, 31 Jr. Exhibitors and 41 Market Goat Exhibitors. We appreciated mother nature for cooperating with us too, although it wasn't nice of the weatherman to scare us into thinking it was going to rain on Sunday!

We held a raffle to contribute to the Jr. Herdsman Scholarship Program and it was a huge success as we collected $775.00 that will go to the Jr. Scholarship Fund for the 2004 year. Congratulations to those from California who are Jr. Herdsman in 2004, Clarissa Castaneda, Brianna Kehn, Nathan Kehn & Leslee Kehn,  and the following will also receive belt buckles this year as first time Jr. Herdsman, Marilyn Castaneda, Molly Quisenberry, Logan Schallberger & Lynice Schallberger. There were 47 youth that participated this year, and your help in the raffle will enable these kids to each earn more scholarship money! Thank you!! And the winner of the Boer Goat Water Can Fountain, donated by The Schallbergers, was Teresa Andrews from Bakersfield. Gary Valente won the Hanging Tack Box donated by VSI. A big thanks to Marilyn, Clarissa and Logan for selling all of the tickets for the Raffle! (Be sure to mark those hours down for your Jr. Herdsmans points for this year) And a reminder to all of the Jr’s your Herdsman hours for the first quarter are due May 10th!

The overall’s received Director’s Chairs, which are always a big treat to win! And congratulations to our Premier Exhibitor - Shadow Ridge Ranch - Sue Erickson & Richard Oliveira as they had the most cumulative points in the show ring on Saturday and were awarded our Vern Chancellor Premier Exhibitor Award.

During our lunch break we had our Pee Wee & Youth Showmanship classes that were judged by our own Robin Millerick from Lockeford. Robin has been showing goats since their inception into California, and has been one of the top CJLA placers since CJLA has included goats. Our 1st place Pee-Wee exhibitor was Bethany Silveria from Escalon. And our Youth Winner was Anna Andrews from Bakersfield. Congratulations to all of the showman as they did a wonderful job. And thanks to Robin Millerick for donating the prizes for all of those participating in the classes, as well as judging the show!

Our judge Dr. George Ahlschwede from San Angelo, TX did a fantastic job, and the show moved along at a steady pace during the day. Mr. Joe Camarillo came on Sunday as a trainee judge for the Jr. Show, and it looks like we are close to having a California Judge to start judging some of these Boer Goat Shows!!! :) Thanks to Ken Thompson for making the days fun, especially the Jr. Show...we all had a very good time on Sunday! In fact one of the comments made on Sunday was that it was sure nice to have music during the Market Show..it kept everything lively!! (As if Ken didn't do that on his own!!!) And thank you to Marjory & Celeste Ostman for helping to weigh in the market goats, and to Mike Reis on standby....when we inevitably had a problem!

It was really great of Amy, Anna, Jessica, Michaela, Bethany, Bailey, Marilyn & Clarissa to help during the Jr. Show to pass out ribbons and awards. Without them, we really would have been struggling! Thanks girls!

Thanks Marlies & Sandy, Shirley Thompson & Amy Wright and Gary Valente for taking care of the ring. Thanks in a big way to Sue Hobby for getting all of the great prizes for the Jr. Show from VSI, and helping to get the sponsor ad's in. And thanks to Claudia Valente and Marilyn Castaneda for always being there to help! And to Tom at the Fairgrounds for bending overbackwards..and being nice even though my son ran through his newly planted flower bed and tore up all of his flowers that he had been lending TLC to the past two weeks! (UGH...Why do I have kids again!??) And a big thanks to Gayla & Bob Roberts for making all of the Goat Burritos...they were delicious!! The 4-H Club & Basketball Club thanks you for helping them to raise money!

The Jr. Show and market goat shows on Sunday went just as well as the Open Show. These youth were ready to go and showed their competitiveness in the showring. The 1st place showman for the day were - Justin Andrews, Brianna Kehn & Robin Millerick. There was some fierce competition, but thanks to our sponsors, everyone went home with something. In the market show again, there was some pretty tough competition. Exhibitors were paid out to 5th place, and again, everyone was awarded something for showing. The overall winners were:

Supreme Champion went to : Andrea Lopez with her 85 lb wether

Reserve Supreme went to Cassie Tartaglia with her 64 lb wether.

These Jr. Members showing in the Jr. Show did a fantastic job. The Overall Champions in each division competed for the Best of Show Award. The Best of Show went to Leslee Kehn with her FB Doe ROK Crystal, she received a 3-foot Feeder donated by Shauls Mfg. Congratulations to all of the youth participating in the Jr. Show. They all received items donated by VSI of Modesto, for showing.

The furthest spectator came from Tennessee to our show this weekend, I hope that you all met Dean Landre. He really enjoyed the show, and will probably be coming out for the show in October again!
